The Breakfast Scrub - Soap & Glory

I'm a snob.  I know it, always have been, most likely always will be, but that said, even I do like a decent high street product that costs less than a tenner!

Soap & Glory.  Oh, how I wish their products appealed to me more, I really do. I love that they have a sense of humour, but sometimes I think (actually, scratch that, I know) that I'm not their target market, and so I tend to ignore them in Boots.

Well, more fool me, eh?  Having been introduced to body scrubs by the wonderful Haus of Gloi recently, when a tub of this turned up recently, I thought I'd give it a go.  And I'm glad I did.

Fairly solid in the tub - nothing annoys me more than a runny scrub that you end up merely rinsing off the bottom of the bath - and smelling deliciously of maple syrup, owing to that, porridge, shea butter and ... banana* being it's major ingredients alongside salt, sugar and glycerine, this is a good scrub.  In the hands it remains fairly solid, and it exfoliates even the hardest skin very nicely without making the bath a slippery nightmare.  I found it dealt with the scaly skin on my shins - that I suffer with every winter - very well indeed, and didn't cause any redness or itching.

Whilst I didn't enjoy using it quite as much as my Haus of Gloi Bubbling Scrub (it doesn't lather, and the scent isn't as complex, being rather foody, but enjoyable all the same), it's a perfectly acceptable substitute and, at £9.45 from Boots, it's a fairly reasonable price for a massive tub.  Although the S&G website states it's only £7.50 ...

The Fine Print: PR sample, but a very welcome one.

* I HATE BANANAS.  There, I said it.

  1. I've always wondered about Soap & Glory products, but never bought anything. Next time I'm in Boots I'll have to smell this (I love Maple Syrup.) If I like it, I'll run home & order it from ASOS! They sell it for £7.70.

  3. I'm curious - who do you think their target market is?

  4. I have a love hate relationship with Soap and Glory, love the packaging and the script but hate most of the fragrances which accompany the products - just too cloying. That saying I really like their take on the hot cloth cleanser (Fab Pore). Jan x

  5. Last year, I got a Soap & Glory Hatbox for myself at the bargain price of £20, down from £50 in the Boots Offer of the Week. This year, they repeated their success with the Soap & Glory Tote Bag which I bought for £25, down from £60. Some of the products I already had from last year and some not. This one was completely new to me.

This item takes its name from the cult film The Breakfast Club which is about a group of very different teenagers who are all naughty in some way or another and get put in detention. I made an effort to see this recently but was disappointed. This on the other hand, lived up to my expectations.

In terms of body scrubs, I am happy to try different things. I have tried some from Body Shop, from Superdrug and also Flake Away which I just love the smell of but find it often leaves a weird residue. I love the way they have played on the breakfast concept and packaged this in a see through bowl shape rather than the standard pot.

The main ingredients are oat, shea butter and sugar body smoother, all things that I am a fan of. The first thing that you will notice is the smell, delicious. As promised on the lid, it smells like maple which reminds me of pancakes and all nice things like that. Really really nice. It is sandy in colur with dark brown pieces just dotted around. So far so good.

To use, I simply scooped out a bit and rubbed it on my skin. You can immediately feel that it's quite abrasive which I like and I really felt that I was doing some good to my skin. It can get everywhere so thorough risining is needed. I've used this many times since opening it so can see the 300ml going quite quickly.

My skin felt good afterwards and smelt absolutely delicious. This one gets a big tick from me. If you want to buy this at Boots, this costs £9.35 so it's not cheap by any means!
