How to fight chafing and blisters in the heat with Bodyglide
This is a public service announcement.
Every year at this time my twitter and facebook feeds are full of my otherwise lovely lady friends showing off pictures of their blisters (seriously, STOP THAT) from their pretty summer sandals, and worrying about chafing (or chub-rub) in ... intimate ... places, and on every single post, I place this link: http://www.getlippie.com/2011/04/whoa-bodyglide.html I first wrote it five years ago, having discovered it five years before that, and I'm still recommending it to everyone at every single opportunity.
If you have feet, get a tube of this. If you have thighs get a tube of this. If you have skin, GET A TUBE OF THIS, and apply it generously. I can't even remember the last time I had a foot blister (and this stuff is a godsend for breaking new shoes in, by the way), and even though my thighs meet all the way down (screw you, "thigh gap", FFS), I haven't had chafing ever on the days I've remembered to apply this - I do occasionally forget, but never twice in a row, believe you me. I buy a new tube every single spring, and hopefully, now you will too - forget those tiny tubes of "anti-blister sticks" you can find in Boots, this tube is a whopping 42gms compared to the usual 5gms in those packs, and this will last you an entire year of generous applications, if not longer.
Mine came from Amazon this year, and cost around a tenner. But you can also get it from specialised sports websites like Wiggle. Buy some, apply it generously wherever chafing might occur, and enjoy your new-found hot weather freedom.
You're welcome.
The Fine Print: THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED POST, I'm just tired of seeing blisters everywhere. And I'm squeamish.

Hot Weather Helpers
Knowing my luck, by the time you read this, the weather will have broken, and we'll have been plunged back into the perma-winter we've known this entire year. In which case, please accept my sincere apologies, and hopefully this will come in handy for the four days of summer we're likely to get next year ...
I'm addicted to sprays in the summer, and two of the best I've found this year are the Melvita Damask Rose Floral Water:
Lightly scented, yet highly emollient, this is good for those days where you need both cooling down, and a hit of moisture in your skin. This is lovely, and I really like the new packaging.
And, for those days when your skin is either pumping out the grease, or you just want a super-refreshing spray, you need Suti Peppermint Toning Water:
Like a tube of polos in liquid form, this refreshes the parts other toners cannot reach. I have a bottle on my desk, and a bottle in the fridge at all times. Handy hint, it's great for spraying on your feet both to cool, and neutralise any nasty niffs.
And finally, an oldie, but the best summer helper EVER is this: Bodyglide:
For when your sandals rub your feet, or when your straps rub your skin, or where any bits of your skin rub against other bits of your skin (yes, thighs, I'm looking at you) this is the business. Stops rubbing, chafing and blistering on any part of your body. It's ACES. Get some. I've found the big tubes on Amazon for around £12 or so, but one should last you at least a year (you don't need much), and it's the best investment I make every single summer. Get one. Get two, in fact, and carry one round with you at all times. You'll never regret it.

Whoa ... Bodyglide ...
... Bodyglide for yooooooooooouuuuuuu ....
This is the least glamorous product ever featured on a beauty blog! Nonetheless, it's a lifesaver for me, particularly in the summer.
Chafing, ladies and gents, is not sexy. It's not much fun either, being painful, and in summer it can lead to limited clothing opportunities, owing to the need to dress in a way to minimise rubbing. For years, I lived in trousers in all weathers simply to avoid my thighs rubbing. In summer, just the thought of wearing a skirt without tights (and thick, black opague tights at that) would make me weep. Yes, some stores stock what they call "comfort shorts", but that's just an added layer of clothing and kind of defeats the object of wearing a skirt in summer in the first place!
When I was training for a marathon a few years ago (what? I've done a marathon! And raised nearly £2k for charity whilst I was about it too, stop laughing at the back), I was introduced to Bodyglide by a friend, and I've never been without a tube since.
Essentially a zinc-based balm, it creates a barrier between your skin and any materials that might chafe (or other body parts that rub together), and prevents the friction that causes rashes and discomfort, and as such it's a godsend. This little tube means I can wear skirts without tights in hot weather, and as it's also great for preventing blisters from strappy shoes, means I can happily trip around town in any combination of sandals and other footwear without fear of blisters or unsightly plasters. All you do is rub a thin layer - and you really do only need a thin layer - over any areas where you are prone to chafing, or rubbing, and that's it. I haven't had a foot-blister in about four years now ...
So yes, it's not glam, not sexy, not sparkly or shiny, but it is just plain useful, and a product I couldn't live without it. I get my Bodyglide (and how can you not love that name?) from wiggle.com where a large tube, which will last you all summer - and beyond, will cost you £8.99.
The Fine Print: I buy two tubes of this a year, a small one for my handbag, and a larger one for the house. If a PR had suggested I write about this stuff, I'd probably have laughed at the pitch. Oh yes. But the recent sweltering weather has reminded me just how much of a blessing this stuff is. So there.
PS apologies for the earworm, 80s kids!
