Serozinc, how much do I love thee?
A whole heap, is how much. Not so much a review, this piece, really (I've already reviewed Serozinc here) just mentioning in passing that Escentual (by far my favourite place to buy French skincare products in the UK) has these cute mini-cans of Serozinc in stock now, and they cost only £3 per can! Escentual is currently hosting its annual French Pharmacy event, and they'd normally cost £4.50 each.
And they're cute! Did I mention they're cute? I bought a shedload of them, they're everywhere! This isn't even all of them, Serozinc is one of my desert island products ...

Skincare of the Week 8th July 2016
Yeah, it's been a while ... Turns out I like not blogging almost as much as I do actual blogging, who knew?! Anyway, for today at least, I'm back slaving away at a keyboard. I would have been back last week, but stuff happened, and I'm still wearing the bandage on the middle finger of my left hand, let's put it that way.
Anyhoo, skincare. This week was mainly about trialling the new Burts Bees Cleansing Oil (literally just released in the UK, and costs £16.99 a bottle from their website). I like it a lot, but I'm a bit upset it's a fragranced oil, I can't see any reason why it needs to be. It's a light, smooth oil that spreads over the skin nicely, and removes makeup thoroughly but gently. The label indicates its for dryer skins than mine, but my sensitive combination-oily skin tolerates it nicely. It doesn't quite emulsify when you come to rinse, just becomes a bit looser, and it easily wipes off with a warm flannel. I like it.
Everything else I've been using this week is an old (or an almost-old) favourite, I'm still mostly in love with Tata Harper skincare, and I'm nearing the end of this bottle of the Tata Harper Rejuvenating Serum, and I totally intend to finish it off. I recently finished my much-beloved bottle of Zelens Intense Defence Serum, which has left a gaping hole in my routine, to be honest, I'm still casting about to find the perfect replacement, the Tata is good, and does what it is supposed to, but I just don't love it as much as the Zelens for some reason. It does work really well with the Rebuilding moisturiser though.
How has your week in skincare been?

Skincare of the Week 12 June 2016
I've been on a blog-hiatus. It wasn't intended, but it just sort of happened, and, I have to admit, I've rather enjoyed it. I'm just now entering my eighth year of blogging (you read that right), so that's seven years of Sunday afternoons that I've spent at my computer, which equates to nearly a solid YEAR of taking pictures, editing pictures (always the worst part, tbh), actually doing the writing and doesn't even slightly take into account the hours I spend getting to events, reading press releases, testing products and the thinking (oh my god, the THINKING) about blog posts even before I sit down to write them!
So, because I've been enjoying NOT blogging for a couple of months, its crossed my mind that maybe I should retire. Year end was super-busy at work this year, and we just moved house, and I've been tired - so very, very tired - and the thought of adding blogging back into that particular mix has just been ... depressing. Another thing to worry about, and another obligation. That said, I've been loving Instagram very much lately, pop on over!
Retiring from blogging at Get Lippie completely has been a tempting option under the circumstances, like the thought of going on a lovely, looooooooong, holiday. Blogging, particularly beauty blogging, is both a bit of a rat-race and a popularity contest these days, and I'm never going to be Zoella or Pixiwoos. Hell, I'm barely even Get Lippie these days! Luckily, I don't rely on my blog to make my living - there's no sponsorship or endorsement deals here - but, now I'm out of work-madness time, and we've practically got the new flat sorted, I'm going to give a couple of Sundays* back up to the blogging muse, and see what occurs.
So, yeah, skincare is what we're meant to be talking about, apparently, not my existential crisis, so here's some skincare chat:
I'm attempting to use up my much-beloved Zelens Intense Defence Serum, because it's nearly at the end, and that will make it the only serum I've used up in several years! I love this stuff, on my picky, overly sensitive, prone-to-redness skin, this acts like a bandage, protecting it from all kinds of pollutants and cushioning it from the effects of overly harsh weather, or unsuitable skincare products. I've been boosting it with Zelens Power D Drops in recent weeks, and I'll be giving a full review of those soon.
Clinique sent me a bumper pack of their Moisture Surge products the other week, and, whilst I've had trouble with gel-formula moisturisers in the past (they tend to be heavy on the silicones and irritate my skin by not letting it breathe too well), I'm really enjoying using Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief. The stress of the last couple of months, combined with spending a lot of hours really staring at a computer - seriously, when you're getting 40 incomprehensible emails a day from a government department, you'd be screwing your face up too - have left me craving hydration, and I find this feels super-hydrating at first application and leaves my skin feeling velvety and wonderful, without the little angry bumps I can get from too many silicones.
Something else new that I'm trying right now is the Silke London silk hair wrap. I've been toying with wrapping my hair for a while now, having found that sleeping on a silk pillow case makes a huge difference to my hair, but couldn't find a 100% silk wrap that I liked. Then Silke London launched, and I had to have one, so treated myself to an Isla, which is the green and blue version. It's essentially a silk turban, and looks impossibly glamorous on the right person. I am not the right person, and look like Hilda Ogden after a minor lottery win in mine, so there will be no selfies wearing it, but I'll keep you posted ...
How's your week been? I've not retired. Yet.
*But not next Sunday. Ironically, I'm going on holiday ... ;)

Skincare of the week 2nd May 2016
I'm trialling a couple of new bits and pieces at the moment, mostly from Zelens. The new pieces I've added to my routine are the Zelens Power D Treatment Drops, which I've been adding to my serums this week for a lovely antioxidant boost, and I've been using them alongside the Zelens Hydra Shiso Balancing Moisturiser too. Loving the treatment drops, but I really need to re-try the moisturiser - I had a touch of sensitivity towards the end of the week (which I think was related to a rather silicone-heavy cosmetic product I'd been using), so I'll be gradually re-introducing the skincare back to my routine over the next week or so. I was also introduced to Erborian Eau Ginseng toner this week, which is a lovely moisturising step in my routine. I'm really enjoying using splash toners at the moment, they're a bit less shocking than sprays, first thing in the morning! Plus, you can really feel the difference in what they do to your skin, as you apply. (I also have plans to use this as an occasional eye mask, I've been doing a lot of squinting at a computer recently, and the dehydration lines I've been suffering with as a result are no joke, believe me!).
What's new in your routine these days?

Paris Haul ...
Yeah, I don't normally do haul posts, but I did JUST go to Paris this weekend for an event at the Guerlain flagship store on the Champs Elysees with the Perfume Society. Whilst I was there, I picked up a few bits and pieces and I thought I'd show you. I'll write about a few of these in more detail (including writing about my time smelling the Guerlain archives!) soon, but, in the meantime, here's what I bought during my whistle-stop tour:
First off, French Pharmacy Essentials:
As the likes of Escentual.com and even Boots catch on to the greatness of French pharmacy brands, it's becoming less and less necessary to trip over to Paris to pick up cheap and good skincare. Especially now Serozinc is here! However, La Roche Posay Respectissime eye makeup remover, which is designed for waterproof makeup, but is gentle enough not to sting even my deeply sensitive eyes, STILL isn't available over here, and it's a shame, because it is, frankly, the best eye makeup remover EVER. Sort it out, La Roche Posay! This Demak Up cotton wool is a firm favourite too, having a proper embossed side and a smooth and fluffy side, I love it. And at around 50p a packet, I may have bought more than a couple ...
I popped into the Diptyque store in St Germain for a sniff and a chat, and ended up coming out with the new Rosaviola candle, the limited edition created with Olympia le Tan, the French fashion designer:
Smelling of roses and violets, and decorated with lips, I couldn't resist! And it's so pretty with the pink jar, and the embroidered fabric label. More about my visit to Diptyque soon.
I also, of course, went to Sephora!
The Sephora Nail Varnish Remover pots are a firm favourite, so I took the opportunity to stock up whilst I was in Paris. I always get the Glitter pots, as they come with a scrubby sponge that I really like for getting into all the nooks and crannies. I noticed there was a cuticle care version with camelia oil too, so I thought I'd try it, as my cuticles are positively shameful right now. I'll report back. I'm a bit obsessed with primers at the moment (there's a big post coming up), so I couldn't resist a trial-size version of this Erborian Pink Perfect Cream. And how cute are the Sephora Kiss Me lip balms? This is Candy Apple and Soda Pop.
I also popped into Yves Rocher, because I always like having a nosey at their stuff:
I bought some Serum Vegetal skincare shots, and a Perfect Primer in Rose. Yes, another primer ... Yves Rocher are one of the biggest brands in France, and they're really reasonable. It's been a while since I tried any of their products though, I admit - they're not that easy to get hold of in the UK though, which is a shame.
And finally, of course, Guerlain:
I fully intended to buy some fragrance, but the one I fell in love with in-store was five hundred euros! Luckily, seeing as I'm moving house in a month, I ran out of shopping time in-store, so some rose and violet tea (actually the Paris Caprice tea), a jar of limited edition honey (who knew you could buy Guerlain honey????) plus a couple of bits from the new La Petite Robe Noire collection will just have to do. This is the lip colour in Berry Beret and nail polish in Black Perfecto, expect more about these soon.
So there you have it. Just a few things, and, to be honest, I'd have been happy even if I'd only brought the eye makeup remover and cotton wool back!

Skincare of the Week 17 January 2016
Well, as if you can't tell, I spent this week acclimatising myself to the Tata Harper products I treated myself to over Christmas! Inital thoughts are positive so far, extremely positive in fact, but I need a little more time with them before I review them in full.
I wasn't too sure about the Tata Harper Refreshing Cleanser at first, it's a little outside my cleansing comfort zone, if such a thing could be said to exist! It's a lightly grapefruit-scented cream cleanser, which utilises enzymes and clay to cleanse your face, and it's the one said to be most suitable for sensitive skin. It's an unusual texture - completely unlike my usual (beloved) balms and oils - but it genuinely does clean the face, and I think it has a slight exfoliating effect, which hasn't - so far - caused any irritation. I wouldn't use it for removing makeup though, I prefer oils for that, but for a morning cleanse, or a second cleanse in the evening, I really like it. Now.
I was cautious about adding the Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence and the Rebuilding Moisturiser, because the essence contains essential oils (something my skin always has a bit of trouble with), and because moisturisers are always my troublesome area, so I added them into my routine on separate days, seemingly with few ill-effects. Overall, the introduction to a "proper" Tata Harper routine has gone pretty well! I'm heading off to Content Beauty this week for a Tata Harper facial, and I can't wait! I will, of course, report back.
On Saturday, I trialled May Lindstrom Honey Mud on Saturday, and again, my experience was a mixed one, It's quite sticky (and smells of chocolate, which I can't bear at the moment), and I found my skin was a little "tight" after, but I suspect this was down to user-error than anything else. It needs, for example, wetter skin that I am used to. May herself was kind enough to comment on the Instagram post I put up with some suggestions, and I'm looking forward to using the Honey Mud again, with some more specific ways to use it.
What's been on your face this week?

Skincare of the Week 10 January 2016
I took a couple of weeks off blogging over Christmas, which was fabulous, but I still kept at the "cleaning my face" thing. It being a new year, I thought trying out some new products would be a good idea, but I think I tried too much new far too quickly, and my skin fairly quickly let me know it wasn't entirely happy with the idea.
Top left, Monday, I tired the Murad Correcting Moisturiser, which has a slight green tint to help neutralise redness. It's a nice moisturiser, and I'm looking forward to trying it again properly in a couple of weeks time. On Tuesday/Wednesday I introduced some Kiehls skincare to my routine, beginning with Kiehl's Calendula Herbal Extract Toner, and Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream. Now, I have to say, I absolutely loved using these products - the moisturiser in particular made my skin feel velvety, rather than oily, and left a semi-matte finish that was a great base for makeup. However, the effect of trialling three new products in three days (not something I'd normally do, but I got a bit excitable!) made it's mark on my skin a little bit - bumpy bits around the edges of my cheeks and temples - and so I pre-emptively swapped to my SOS skincare kit to head off any breakouts or irritation. I've written about my SOS Sensitive Skin kit before, and you can read that if you click the link.
The second half of the week was spent trying to soothe irritation, and (as I took delivery of a massive skincare order from Being Content last week too) being desperate to try MORE new products! I'm my own worst enemy sometimes, I really am. Nonetheless, Thursday found me trying a new cleanser from Tata Harper - one designed for sensitive skin, natch - the Tata Harper Refreshing Cleanser. I haven't come to any firm conclusions about it yet, it's a cream cleanser, and I'm always somewhat ambivalent about cream formulas, but it hasn't cause any irritation, so hoorah for that!
So, what's been on your face this last week?

Skincare of the Week 20.12.15
I got a bit obsessed with a couple of products this week, namely the Pixibeauty Skintreats H20 Skindrink serum and Glowtion Day Dew moisturiser. Mixing them together, and using in place of my regular moisturiser has lead to a lovely, fresh glow that's rather addictive. I find the cream just a little too glow-y on it's own, but mixed with the H20, it's ideal. I used it four times this week, and I'll be wearing it a lot over Christmas too ... Definitely back-up worthy, these two products!
Zelens was back in my routine in a rather big way this week too - my prep for my Christmas party involved PHA+ pads, antioxidant serum, and the balm cleanser, a great mix with the Pixi combo mentioned above over the top! I've also been giving Dr Dennis Gross Retinol Eye Cream a thorough workout this week too, and results are still yet to be decided on. My cough is nearly gone, but my skin still needs some TLC, so it needs a couple of weeks more before I decide if it's a miracle product or not.
This is the last Skincare of the Week for 2015, because next week I'll be travelling. In the meantime, Merry Christmas!

Desert Island Skincare
I was wondering, briefly, what I would take if I had to pare down my skincare routine right down to its very, very basics. I get lots of people mentioning that I use a wide range of products on my skin, and if I think that's a good idea, bearing in mind that my skin is quite sensitive. My reply is usually that whilst I do rotate products quite a bit, I tend to stick to tried and trusted favourites, and just swap in one new product into my routine at a time. If you follow me on Instagram at all, you'll see my morning face routines on the day, and there's usually a core of products that I use, and only swap one product or so a day.
Picking my core, desert island skincare was difficult. Very, very, very difficult.in the end, I narrowed it down to these nine items, and I made them mostly old favourites, because, whilst I've trialled some amazing skincare - some that I'm convinced will be future classics, I haven't been using them long enough to see if they make the "repurchase" hall of fame. All of the products featured here, with the exception of one, have passed that particular hurdle, and in spades.
First things first, cleansing. I picked two cleansers, one a basic no frills, no scents, no luxury cleanser, which is perfect for sensitive skin, and also makes a great makeup remover, and that is Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil. I've not reviewed this yet (but I will), but I love it for days when my skin is acting up, and I want something that my skin won't - can't - react to. For a cleanser that is the exact opposite, that is luxurious in every single way, smells divine, beautifully textured, and fantastic for a second cleanse, I chose Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm. Follow the link for a full review.
Toner. There was only ever one "toner" on this list, and that was, of course, La Roche Posay Serozinc. I play with others, but the zinc in Serozinc makes all the difference to my skin. For an acid tone, however, I chose Zelens PHA+ Bio Peel Facial Resurfacing Pads because they are glycolic-free, and my skin tolerates them better than any other acid toner on the planet. There is a rumour going around that I only bought the Caroline Hirons Beauty Box recently because I needed to stock up on these, and I only wish I could deny that ...
Serum-wise, I went with Artemis by Sunday Riley. This was an incredibly difficult choice, and I uhmmed and ahhhed about putting Hydraluron in its place instead. In the end I went with Artemis because it is more of a multi-purpose product, which you can use as an oil or a serum, and it's anti-inflammatory qualities make it a great product for skin prone to sensitivity or redness, like mine. I'd miss Hydraluron though.
I guess you could also call May Lindstrom's Blue Cocoon a serum, but it's a balm that turns into an oil, and it's fantastic for sensitive skin. I use it whenever my skin is flaring up, or when it needs a little extra protection, either from products or from the weather. It's truly a desert island product in that I can't imagine life without it.
Speaking of balms, the Nuxe Reve de Miel never ever makes it onto my skincare of the day posts, but it is a product I use every single day without fail. It softens the lips beautifully and prepares them for lipstick perfectly. I love the matte texture, and this version, "Love" has a lovely orange flavour, which I like more than the original honey version.
For eyes, I chose Omorovicza Blue Diamond Eye Cream, which I have enjoyed using a great deal this year. Whilst I wouldn't describe it as my holy grail eyecream - which I'm not sure exists, tbh - it is a very, very good eyecream. Except the price will make your eyes water ...
And finally, moisturiser. Now, I'm pretty much of the opinion that if you get everything else right, you can use pretty much anything as a moisturiser, to be honest, but I make an exception for this, Kate Somerville Goat Cream. Moisturising, soothing, and also gently exfoliating (it's packed with lactic acid) this is a moisturiser beyond compare. I can't wait for Kate Somerville skincare to come back to the UK. I hear rumours that it's on the horizon, and, as soon as I hear anything confirmable, I'll let you know.
So there you go. If I could only use a few products, these would be the ones I would choose. I think. What skincare products couldn't you live without?

Skincare of the Week - 13 December 2015
Not a hugely exciting week skincare-wise, admittedly - I'm still ill and still look like death warmed up (if death was into the fourth week of a cough that makes them puke at regular intervals, that is) - but I did get my Caroline Hirons Skincare box this week, so from Tuesday onwards you can see the Tata Harper Rejuvenating Serum, and the Dr Dennis Gross Retinol Eye Cream have been added to my regular rotation. I can't judge their results yet - indeed, it would be unfair to do so, seeing how grotty I look generally at the moment, to be honest - but they're a nice addition to my routine and I'm looking forward to seeing how they work generally once I recover. The box was a good one though, especially as I got back ups of some longtime faves, the May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon Balm, alongside the Zelens PHA+ Bio Peel Resurfacing Pads, in the box too. But more about those products in particular later this week.
I also added some Hydraluron back into my routine, both in the serum and the moisturising jelly formulation. I do like a bit of hyaluronic acid in my routine, and I like Hydraluron very much - I especially like the moisturising jelly as a great hydrating moisturiser for oily/combination skin that doesn't need an oily cream over the top as well. They were on offer at Boots recently, £30 for the serum, the jelly and a box of sheet masks for £30, which is a humongous bargain! I may have bought a couple of them!
I think my dreadful cough is on the wane now, hopefully I'll be back to looking like a human by Christmas ...
The Fine Print: Stuff and things from my cupboard and that.

Skincare of the Week 06.12.15
Having sensitive skin whilst the seasons are changing can be awkward, certainly I find that I have to be extra careful with the active ingredients in skincare when the weather is at its least predictable. Still being ill with a cough really isn't helping, either. My skin has been on the verge of being really reactive this week (I can usually tell as tiny bumps start appearing on my temples), so I've swapped my routines around a bit, to be a bit kinder to my skin.
I have dropped the acids from my daytime routines and I'm now only using them a couple of times a week - at night. This gives my skin time to recover from using them whilst I sleep, and stops my skin getting irritated by the weather so much during the day. I'm going to avoid using glycolic all over for a while until my skin settles down again.
In other news, I've re-introduced one of my all-time favourite skincare brands back into my routine - namely Kate Somerville. I'm so happy to have Goat Cream (you can see it in my Thursday PM pic above) back in my routine. It's gentle and soothing, and thanks to the lactic acid, it's also ever so slightly exfoliating. I've been using the Pixi Skintreats Glow Peel Pads to exfoliate my chin separately, however, as I have a semi-permanent build up of sebum there, and I'm hoping the 20% glycolic on those pads will help deal with that.
Now, if only these things helped with cold sores ...

Skincare of the week 29.11.15
I've been ill for a fortnight now - why there weren't any posts on the blog last week, sorry! And this is the skincare I've been using to help myself look approximately normal again. It's not working, I still look like death warmed up, but at least my skin isn't blotchy and flaking. For now ...
Monday brought Biologique Recherche Lait, with PixiBeauty Glow Tonic, Murad Eye Cream, Medik8 Red Skin serum (something I'm starting to truly love and rely on), and SkinCeuticals moisturiser - of which there is a full review coming up, because it's a great product on my sensitive oily-combination skin. Oh, and Serozinc, which is an all-time favourite!
Tuesday was the same, only I swapped in Bioderma Crealine spray for the Serozinc (and in all honesty, I use them both interchangably - if you have one, you probably don't need the other), plus I added in Pestle & Mortar Pure Hyaluronic, for more hydration. Tuesday was a long day at the office, and I knew I'd need a boost of hydration to get through the day, but I needed a bit of exfoliation first to make it sink in well, so the morning also brought in my much-loved Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Toner.
Wednesday was one of those days where I woke up super exhausted, and it was showing on my face, so I wanted some lovely, buffering, comforting skincare, so I dug out my beloved (truly beloved) May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon Balm, which is an amazing skincare product for sensitised slightly reactive skin like mine. A rich balm that melts into an oil, and contains natural anti-histamines in the form of blue tansy oil, I use it as a night treatment mostly, but it's superb at protecting from the weather, on occasion.
Thursday - I'm experimenting with the Kiehls' Ultra Facial moisturiser at the moment, which I really liked in conjunction with the Blue Cocoon Balm, and, just because I could, I did a double-cleanse with PixiBeauty Nourishing Cleansing Balm, and Bioessense Miracle Cleansing Water Cleansing Jelly (about which more soon). I don't normally double-cleanse in the morning , but sometimes you just want to kick things up a bit.
Friday. KATE SOMERVILLE is back in my routine! I received a little package of the products a while ago, and I've been holding onto them (along with the KS products I've been keeping in my fridge for a good few months now too - thanks to kind friends and family who have been to the US this year, and dragged some back for me) till now. You're going to be seeing a lot of KS in the coming weeks, but it's always a joy to use them. I'm currently using the Kate Somerville Nourish Moisturiser, and the Age Arrest Eye Cream, but I'll be rotating a couple of other products in and out of my routine for a couple of weeks. I also have a couple of pots of Goat Cream, but I'm keeping those mainly as night creams right now.
Saturday - I wanted to do a routine composed entirely of favourite products, both old and new ones, and this was the result. Zelens Balm Cleanser, which I left on my face for a good five or ten minutes as a mask before removing (not deliberate, but it felt really nice, actually!) Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Toner, Serozinc, Zelens Antioxidant Serum, and three (count them!) Kate Somerville products, the aforementioned Nourish and Age Arrest eyecream, alongside Quench Hydrating Serum, which is one of my favourite products ever. I probably need the oil-free version for every day use, to be honest, but I do like to use this on days where I'm in no rush to apply my makeup afterwards.
How has your week in skincare been?

Skincare of the Week 15th November 2015
This was a week of two halves, pre-facial (Monday and Tuesday) and post-facial (Weds-Friday). Monday and Tuesday were pretty normal routines for me, I'd had a bit of an itchy face over the weekend, so broke out some bits and pieces from my "SOS" kit - and more about my sensitive skin routine in detail soon, btw - from Darphin and Clarins to soothe, but it was only a temporary itch once I'd discovered the culprit, which was a night cream I've been testing. Dropping that for a few days really helped cure the itchy cycle!
I've introduced a new eye product, which is the Murad Renewing Eye Cream, which is a slightly thick cream that promises to diminish wrinkles and deal with dark circles and bags. After a week of use, I can say it's good, but that I haven't seen any spectacular results so far! I'll keep you posted. Post-facial, I've introduced some Biologique Recherche products, specifically BR Lait U - a nut-milk based cleanser designed for oil-combination skins, and Sérum Extraits Tissulaires, which is designed to help strengthen and moisturise stressed skin. I can't recommend a Biologique Recherche facial highly enough at the moment, I had mine at EF Medispa in Kensington, and I loved it. So thorough, and with excellent - visible - results for several days afterwards. I was also recommended the cult product Lotion P50W, (which is the sensitive skin version) but sadly they were out of stock on the day. I can tell that I do still need some kind of daily exfoliating product, however, hence the re-appearance of Clarins Gentle Exfoliator on the Friday routine.
In other news, I'm trying to use cooler water to cleanse with - whilst steam is fabulous for skin, I am beginning to wonder if using hot water on my face so much is exacerbating my redness problems. I'll let you know how this experiment goes! The idea of cold water on my face on winter mornings doesn't fill me with joy, I have to admit ...

Skincare of the Week 8th November 2015
A bit of a mixed bag this week, skincare wise. Looking at the pictures all in one place kind of makes it clear that I have certain patterns in product usage - Pixi Glow Tonic, for example, I tend to use for two days then swap to Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Toner. The one product I've used consistently this week has been Medik8 Red Alert Serum, which I'm liking more and more the more often I use it. I find it gentle and soothing, and my redness, particularly in the mornings is much reduced. Doesn't make any difference to my redness when I drink booze though ... oops. I really like the Skinceuticals moisturiser too. It's quite a lightweight texture, but it is still plenty hydrating on my combination-oily skin, without leaving a greasy residue. I'll write more in detail about both these products soon, and there's a full review of the gorgeous Votary Cleansing Oil upcoming too.
I've picked up some more of the Pixi Skintreats range this week, as I've been incredibly impressed with what I've tried from the range so far and I was intrigued to try more - you can see the Milky Hydrating Mist and Glowtion Day Dew in Thursday's picture, but I also have the Glow Pads and a couple of other bits as well. And I'm trialling some new things from Dermalogica and Murad over the next two weeks, it's all go on the skincare front, but I'm looking forward to trying them out! Have a few more Christmas-themed posts coming up this week first though ...

Skincare of the week: 31/10/2015
A (slightly) different format for Skincare of the Week this week ... Also, I've decided to introduce a little Product of the Week award too!
This week was busy and stressful, and coupled with a bout of insomnia, it wasn't really fun. I did have a good facial this week at the Askinology Facial Bar in Leadenhall Market, which is where I discovered Medik8 Red Alert Skin Serum. You can see it in every picture from Wednesday onwards.
As many readers of this blog know; I'm prone to redness, and sensitivity is one of the banes of my existence. I was a bit worried after my facial that a rather, ah ... enthusiastic scrubbing with a physical exfoliant (something I would never, ever do at home) was going to leave me red and sore for the rest of the week, but a few drops of the Medik8 before going to bed, and a few drops in my facial routine the following morning seemed to sort it right out. I've stuck to blander cleansers since though, just in case a flare-up was imminent, but a pinkness crisis seems to have been averted, so far. Just in case though, I've been at pains to avoid essential oils for a few days too - as, with a very few exceptions, they all irritate when my skin is inflamed. This is a shame, as I am loving the Votary range of oils at the moment and, especially, the cleanser, but they are essential oil-heavy, and delicious with it, but are something I need to wander away from when I think my skin is a bit irritable.
But, the real miracle product in my routine this week has been Pestle & Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Serum, and as such, it's my inaugural "Product of the Week"! I picked this up on a whim when I was in Liberty recently - my Hydraluron stocks are running low - and I kind of fell in love with it. A slight bout of insomnia this week (funny thing, I've been interviewing auditors all week, you'd think that would be a cure, not a cause, but I digress) means that I've been aware I've been looking tired - so very tired - when I wake up in the mornings and a quick swipe with two or three drops of this has had my skin plumped up and happy-looking even on the shortest of sleep-cycles. With one of the shortest ingredients lists I've ever seen* in a skincare product, Pure Hyaluronic Serum is vegan and free of things like phtalates, parabens and silicone. It costs £33 and is currently exclusive to Liberty in the UK. If you're a bit tired, snap some up. I'll write about it in a bit more detail soon, but it's great stuff.
*Ingredients list in full: Aqua, *Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, *Sodium Hyaluronate, *Cucumis sativus fruit extract, Butylene Glycol, *Tocopheryl Acetate, *Glycerin, *Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, *Caprylyl Glycol (all ingredients marked with a * are plant-derived)
The Fine Print: Mixture of PR samples and personal purchases.

Skincare of the Week 11.10.15
No blog posts last week because I was unwell last Sunday and I simply couldn't face writing in the slightest. I still kept up with my skincare routines though, because I do (occasionally) have standards ... The routine above was a night-time one mid-week, from when I had a congested chin - complete with zit! I haven't had a zit in a couple of years now! Stupid hormones - I'll be reviewing the Pixi Skintreats Glow Mud Cleanser in full tomorrow, but I found that a mixture of the Overnight Glow Serum (a gel formula with 15% glycolic acid) on the congested areas and the Nourishing Sleep Mask (which contains lavender and hyaluronic acid) on everywhere else really, really helped. The zit was only in place for a day or two, which was nice...
Another night-time routine later in the week had me trying these Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating Advanced Brightening Night Capsules, and I'm looking forward to using these a couple more times, as the texture of the formula is fabulous, and I was left with lovely velvety smooth skin in the morning. Hopefully they'll be like that every time!
For more daytime routines, please join me after the jump.

La Roche Posay Serozinc
I was talking to someone about my skincare routine the other day, and I realised that whilst cleansers come and go, whilst acids wax and wane, and whilst moisturisers pass in and out of fashion in the Lippie household, one thing has remained constant for the last three or four years, and that is Serozinc from La Roche Posay.
It's rather unprepossessing, really. A mix of spring water, zinc and just a hint of salt, in a spray but I genuinely wouldn't be without it. It's my go-to facial spray, as it should be for anyone with any hint of sensitivity or redness. It's the zinc, you see, which both soothes and helps to heal irritated or over-activated skin. If you're not prone to redness or sensitivity, then I guess you'll find it hard to see what difference it can make to your skin, but this is one of those products that you notice the difference when you stop using it, I can assure you. And it is cheap, just £7.20 a can (at present), which will last you for several months, at least three, maybe even longer. I use it both as a moisturising toner, and as a general facial spray, and I occasionally use it to "set" makeup that looks a little powdery too.
Now I'm delighted (well, sort of) that you can now get this in the UK! Previously, I used to beg any of my friends heading to Paris to pick me up a tin or two, or I always used to pick up a tin whenever I went too, and now I don't need to ... That's my excuse for Paris shopping trips out of the way then.
So YAY! for Serozinc finally being available in the UK! And BOO! for Serozinc finally being available in the UK. Escentual, thank you very much. And damn you!

La Roche Posay - Rosaliac CC Cream (Daily Unifying Complete Correction Cream)
By Get Lippie
So, after saying the BB Cream craze has largely passed me by recently, I now find myself reviewing a CC cream, finally. And, I have to say, that I almost unqualifiedly love this one.
La Roche Posay has become something of a cult skincare brand in the UK. Almost ubiquitous in France, it's fairly difficult to come by in the UK, but it's well worth seeking out (even if they don't import my favourite product in the range: Serozinc to the UK at all), as there are very few skin conditions they don't treat, and La Roche Posay is a godsend for sensitive skin.
Redness is my major concern, and Rosaliac CC Cream is designed for redness prone sensitive skin, like what I have got. It's a fairly thick texture:
But it spreads very easily, and gives good coverage:
On skin it blends easily, melding nicely with the texture of your skin:
And, it is virtually undetectable once blending is finished:
This gives a fairly light coverage, but it does cover redness well, and gives a lovely, glowing satin finish. It reminds me a great deal of my beloved Chantecaille Just Skin, which is about the highest praise I can give it, to be honest. There are a couple of caveats to that, which, as Rosaliac CC cream is only a third of the price, are only to be expected. Wear time could be a bit longer, I do find I have to powder down in the mid-afternoons, but, for the price, this is very good indeed. Oh, and it only comes in one shade, which is frustrating if you're either very dark or very fair. I'm fairly pale, and this is good for giving me a glow, but if I were any paler, I'd struggle with it, I must admit.
It comes with an SPF of 30, so if you apply enough you won't have to use a separate sunscreen, but as I always use a separate sunscreen regardless, I'd ignore this, tbh. It's got a great texture, a lovely finish (provided you use powder), covers redness, feels soothing on inflamed skin, and best of all, it's currently on offer for £16.55 on Escentual.com I can't really recommend a tinted moisturiser more highly than this one, without you paying almost £60 for it, to be honest ...
