Skincare of the Week 20.09.15
Or, welcome to another week of what I plaster onto my ugly mug ;) I'm still trialling Omorovicza Blue Diamond Eye Cream, and Zelens Intense Defence Antioxidant Serum, though I was thwarted a bit in testing this week through circumstances, as we'll see. This was Monday's face, and I forgot to photograph the moisturiser ... :sigh: I wasn't made for Mondays.
Tuesday arrived, and I thought I'd try my L'Occitane Immortelle Precious Mist in place of my Bioderma Crealine/Serozinc sprays, and I'll be using this a couple more times before I form a real opinion. Aside from that, this was a pretty standard routine for me. Oil cleanse, acid tone, moisture tone, serum, eye cream and moisturise.
On Wednesday, I "shopped my stash", and brought out some autumn favourites, the Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil, and B & Tea Balancing Toner, I do like to change my skincare around with the seasons, and as I have combination-oily skin with sensitivity issues, this is a good combo for my skin with my usual favourites around them.
Then on Wednesday evening a MUA in Harvey Nichols burnt my face with a cleansing foam, and I had to go back into crisis-mode ...

Gels from L'Occitane, Ioma and Champneys.
Confession time: I am not doing well in this heat. I am exhausted to the point where I've actually considered getting myself admitted to hospital just to get some damn rest (and I'm not even slightly joking), sleeping in this humidity is proving next to impossible, and when you add in that July brought some bad tidings, and well, it's not been my favourite month this year, not by a long chalk. Things are, however, getting better as the heat starts to lessen.
These gel body products have also been helping. Ordinarily, I don't use body lotion (I have normal skin from the neck down, so I don't need body lotions very often at all), and I definitely don't get along with gel products as a rule (up until recently, you couldn't have paid me to use a gel product on my face, however, that's a topic for a different blog post), but in this heat, these three have been a godsend.
First of all, L'Occitane Lavande Body & Massage Gel. Ostensibly a product designed for massage, this lavender-scented gel is thick and rather viscous, but rubs in nicely and is gloriously cool in the doing so. I like this rubbed onto the back of the neck and over the forehead to both cool and soothe on stressful days. £20 from L'Occitane stockists.
Next is Ioma Soothing Gel for Legs. A menthol-scented gel that is simply THE most cooling thing on the planet. It's wonderful on your feet if you've had a hard day wandering around all over, refreshing and feels cleansing, and really cools down hot limbs and extremities. The bumpf that goes with this product claims that it is great for all kinds of skin and leg concerns (including varicose veins). Sadly I haven't been using it long enough to test any of those claims, but this feels magnificent on the skin, and the added menthol zing really adds to the cooling sensation. On the down side, this is £55 from Harrods.
And finally, the cheap and cheerful option, which is the Champneys Energising Lime Hydrating Body Gel. Deliciously scented with lime and peppermint (reminiscent of a mojito), this rather thin and runny gel is great for cooling chests and arms, where you can smell and enjoy the refreshing scent. It's not quite as cooling as the Ioma gel owing to the lack of menthol in the mix, but it is a good moisturising product, and the smell is lovely. Cheap as chips too, it's available at Boots for £8. Get some in! Anyone for a cocktail? Anyone? Anyone?
How are you managing in the hot weather?

Review - L'Occitane Fleur Cherie Make Up
On Friday, I said I was giving away a set of L'Occitane goodies, so now is the time for me to tell you a little more about them.
I'm actually giving you this set:
Which contains a lipgloss locket, full size eau de toilette and soap, plus brightening face-powder pearls. It's a cute little set, which I've enjoyed using a great deal recently - I adore the smell of neroli (Fleur Cherie is scented with orange blossom), and the scent of the products (except the lipgloss, which is unscented) is light, refreshing and just lovely.
The powder pearls are very pretty:
Lightly scented with orange blossom, the peach and apricot pearls give a light glow to the skin - they're not dark enough to be a fake-tan product, although they will give a lovely golden-sheen on darker skin. I use these in place of blusher.
The lipglosses that you get in the fob, are essentially clear, with a hint of sparkle, as you'll see in the FOTD later.
But this is not the whole of the range, like the peony range of cosmetics L'Occitane brought out last year, there's a few more colour cosmetics available, and I've been trying those too. I was sent an eyeshadow duo, an eyeliner and a lipstick to try, and here they are:
This is lipstick in Rose Sequin, eyeshadow in Bleu Damasse, and eyeliner in Noir Velours. I've actually found myself impressed with them (with some caveats, as you'll discover), the shadow is smooth and velvety, with excellent pigmentation, and very good lasting power, I found that without a primer, the shadow stayed in place for around 10-12 hours, needing only a light smush with my fingers to get rid of the (minimal) creasing. The liner is very black, and very smudgy, however, it's lasting power isn't quite as good as the shadows, and I found it had run a bit after about six hours. The lipstick is a lovely, lovely shade, but it's very sheer, so won't be for everyone, also, I've found that the cardboard packaging, whilst adorable, isn't the most robust packaging in the world. It's nice and moisturising on though, so while it doesn't last, it's actually nice to reapply quite regularly.
Here's the face of the day I created with the shadows, liner, face powder and the lipglosses from the fob:
Foundation is Estee Lauder Double Wear Light in shade 2.
The Fine Print: samples were provided for review. You didn't think I'd do a giveaway of untried products, did you?
