Dr Perricone No Makeup Skincare
The last time I published a review of Dr Perricone products ... well, let's just say it did not go down too well, so it is with some trepidation that I come to write about them again! I have found myself intrigued by the No Makeup Skincare range for a while now, so, rather in spite of myself, I found myself forking over a bunch of cash in John Lewis recently for the core products, and wondering how I'd get along ...
First thoughts are that the boxes are unnecessarily bulky for such dinky packages. Boxes aside though, can I just say how refreshing it is that the actual bottles reflect the amount of product inside? I thought the foundation was tiny, initially, but on further inspection it contains the exact same amount of product as most of my foundation bottles (30ml)! It's a good size for travel.
As for the colours, you'd expect neutrals in a range called "No Makeup" and that is precisely what you get. The No Lipstick Lipstick is a rosy-mauve lip treatment that reads "nude" on most people, without being too beige or caramel, which was a relief.
No Blush Blush is slightly pinker than the No Lipstick (but again comes in only one shade), but contains a certain amount of brown pigment, which adds depth to the shade, and stops it pulling too much into "hot flash" territory, which is nice.
Now, it must be stated that I am not (ironically!) much of a no-makeup-look kind of girl, really. I like the blush and the lipstick to give an understated but polished finish to my makeup, but I have a tendency to look a bit ill without my eyes and lips on, as it were, so much as I like both the No Lipstick Lipstick and No Blush Blush I don't think they're going to be staples (sorry, I like bright lips too much!) but I do love the cushiony, balmy texture of the No Lipstick, as it reminds me a great deal of my beloved Chantecaille Lip Chics. The No Blush Blush actually has great staying power, but it being a liquid, I do find it rather easy to overapply, so I'm going to need a bit more practice with it before I'm entirely comfortable.
But, onto the No Foundation Foundation which I have to admit that I've fallen for in a big way. Putting aside that I erred on the side of caution just slightly too much and bought too pale a shade, this is fabulous-feeling foundation. It's sheer, yes, very much so, but you can build up to a more medium coverage if you pat on more over problem areas. Finish is very dewy, and it feels really comfortable in wear, almost like you were just wearing a really lovely face cream instead of a foundation, and I like that sensation a great deal.
I do find that it benefits from a bit of powder if I'm having an oily day, and if you are having a bad skin day it won't do a thing for you (sheer, you see), but this might be the most comfortable foundation (sorry, No Foundation) that I've ever bought. I'll just have to pick up the slightly darker shade so I don't look like Caspar the Friendly Ghost when I layer up ...
You can find Dr Perricone products at Selfridges, SpaceNK and John Lewis amongst other suppliers, and the prices of the No Makeup Skincare line ranges from £25-£45 or so.
