Possible Wedding Manicure ...?

The wedding is now just over four weeks away.  The makeup trial has been done, the dress has been adjusted, the reception decisions are almost all made, I remain a blogger in search of a hairdo, however, and owing to budget constraints I'm going to have to do my nails myself.  Ah well, I've had fun over the last few weeks experimenting with nail colours to go with my dress.  However, I've been thinking that purple fingernails with a purple dress is just a bit too matchy-matchy for me.

After all, I have a tendency to paint my nails whatever colour I like on a Sunday evening and then just wear the hell out of it till it, basically, falls off.  As beauty bloggers go, I'm a lousy one when it comes to nails.  This combination though, happened by accident (I didn't like one of the shades, so was covering it up) but I rather like silver with purple, so at the moment, this is the front-runner for wedding-nails.  From left to right we have Out the Door topcoat in Northern Lights, which is a holographic fast-drying topcoat, OPI's Lucern-tenly Look Marvellous (which as most people call me Luce is apposite, at the least), and finally Deborah Lippman's Believe, which was created with Cher.  If you can't channel Cher on your wedding day, frankly, then I don't want to know.

The final product (two coats of Believe, one very thin coat of Lucerne, and a topcoat of Northern Lights) looks like this:

It's about four days old on my nails there, so forgive the state of it in the pictures.  It's silvery, and glittery without being too grey, and without screaming GLITTER.  What do you think?

OPI & Bare Minerals Collaboration

It's becoming more and more trendy to match your nails to your lipstick, or your lips to your nails (depending on preference), and Bare Minerals - queens of collaborations at the moment - and OPI have teamed up this winter to help you out.

These cute duos, consisting of a Pretty Amazing lip colour and a matching OPI polish apiece will be exclusively available from QVC next month, and will cost £20.50 each.

From left to right, we have:

OPI Elephantastic Pink/Bare Minerals Moxie - A sugary, almost pastel pink
OPI Big Apple Red/Bare Minerals Strength - A classic blue red
OPI Barefoot in Barcelona/Bare Minerals Free Will - A medium nude-caramel
OPI I'm Indi-a Mood For Love/Bare Minerals Ambition - A cool medium pink

I've reviewed Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing lip colours before, they have a great opaque texture and don't dry your lips out, here's how they swatch:

These are a fantastic match for the nail polish shades, and I can vouch for the fact that they're a great formula.  At £20.50 for the pair (which would normally cost £26 if you bought them separately), they're a good bargain too.

I've been wearing I'm Indi-a Mood For Love for nearly a week now:

Man, I need me a full manicure!
It's probably one of my favourite shades, I wear it on my toes quite regularly as it's such a cheery shade.

What do you think, will you be indulging?

The Fine Print: PR samples, but I already own a bottle of India, so there.  I paid cash money for it too.

Nails of the Day - OPI The One That Got Away

An oldy, but a goody, this one.  The gorgeous magenta shimmer with a multi-coloured glass fleck is one I love. It is perfect for cheering up a dull day, but on a day full of sunshine, this shimmers with an insane brightness and glow:

My pictures don't really do justice to the depth of this shade, but it's flipping gorgeous.  I'm choosing to gloss over the fact that it's from the Katy Perry collection, this is one of my favourite nail polish shades of all time.  I have it on my toes too, but I shall spare you the picture of that!

What's your favourite nail varnish?

OPI Rally Pretty Pink

Whilst this is indeed "Rally Pretty" (Dear OPI, with these puns, truly you are spoiling us), I'm not entirely sure I'd call it pink. What say you?

(artificial light)

(artificial light)

(artificial light with flash) bit pink here ...

(natural light)

Of all of these shots, I think the daylight one is the one I prefer.

OPI Rally Pretty Pink is one of the Serena Williams creations, and comes in a duo pack with a red crackle glaze. Which I hate. That's why I'm not showing it to you. So there.

Nail of the Day - OPI Meet Me At The Starferry

This might not be the most exciting nail polish you've ever seen, but I adore it.  A work-safe mauvish-pink with multicoloured sparkles, it has a lovely depth on the nails, and is very pretty.  I spent several days last week admiring it. I'd seen it on a lot of blogs recently, and it appealed to me a lot more than, say, Jade is the New Black, for some reason!

Swatches shown are two thin coats over an Orly base and with an OPI topcoat, and are around three days old at the time of photographing, it wears much better than a lot of polishes in my collection!

The day before I removed it, I decided to mattify it just to change it up a little:

Unlike the red creme I tried this with last time, I think this one looks better shiny, what do you think?

The Fine Print: I bought this from Selfridges.  I might as well get my entire salary paid to them and have done with it, let's face it.

Nail of the Day - OPI Crimsun

Yes, it's another Holographic polish, but this is one I'm a little disappointed in ...

Application was exceedingly sheer, meaning I still have visible nail lines, and ... it's pink. Not this orange shade you see here under my halogen lights, and not the crimson you assume from the name.  It's pink.  Fuschia-pink under most lights.  Not a bad colour, as it happens, but not what I wanted!

Also, the holograph-effect is barely visible on the nail.

It's a nice polish.  But not a great one. I like it, but I don't love it. It's also started to chip after about 18 hours on the nail.  Boo!  Holographic polishes are notoriously chippy though, so maybe that's me being picky. I bought mine from eBay.

Nails - my new obsession!

If you follow me on Twitter I think you'll have noticed that my latest obsession is my nails!  And, I'm also obsessed with nail varnish at the moment too ... but not just any polish, I'm mainly obsessed with holographic ones ...

This is the collection I have of them so far.  I blame Mizzworthy, if she hadn't tied me down and forced me to buy  introduced me to the OPI Designer Series Celebration polish (2nd from the left there) then I wouldn't have this lemming for holographic polishes, because I wouldn't have known they existed!

My nails are currently painted with OPI Extravagance (3rd from the right) which is a gorgeous purple with red, yellow, orange and green holographic glitter:

Love the depth of colour in this polish, and also love that it's quite subtle from a distance:

I've tried China Glaze and OPI holo's so far, but I'm REALLY looking forward to Nubar releasing their holo-polishes at the end of January ... they'll be available from Beauty Shed, and I'll be picking up at least a couple ...I found the swatches here, and I can't wait!
