Sleek MakeUP Vintage Romance Palette & Antique Blush

Well, I said I needed to try some cheaper makeup ... and here I am!  Again, like Illamasqua, Sleek MakeUP isn't a brand I feature often, as a lot of the collections don't "speak" to me.  This one, however, very much did.  I don't get the packaging much, it says "Autumn" rather than "Romance" to me, but the contents are delightful:

 The eyeshadow shades are named after honeymoon destinations, l-r on the top row we have

Pretty in Paris - silver (metallic)
Meet in Madrid - gold (metallic)
Court in Cannes - taupe (shimmer)
Lust in LA - olive (shimmer)
Romance in Rome - blackened navy (shimmer)
Propose in Prague - terracotta (matte)

And on the bottom row (l-r) we have

A Vow in Venice - maroon (shimmer)
Marry in Monte Carlo - fucshia (metallic)
Honeymoon in Hollywood - purple (shimmer)
Bliss in Barcelona - blackened purple (shimmer)
Forever in Florence - matte purple (glitter)
Love in London - matte black (glitter)

I found the shadows to be deeply pigmented, even without primer, but the pans are a little prone to kicking up dust, and they're slightly "glazed" after just a couple of uses, but for the price (£7.99) these are extremely minor quibbles.

I found the two darkest non-glitter shades were the hardest to swatch, both Romance in Rome (blackened navy, and Bliss in Barcelona (blackened purple) have a slight duochrome effect, but neither are as pigmented as any of the other shades, which is a shame, but this still leave ten really rich, pigmented and pretty colours to play with.

I created this look with the palette:

 I used Court in Cannes all over the mobile lid up to the crease, and Lust in LA to line the lower rim.  Then I defined the crease and outer corner with A Vow in Venice, and then patted a little Marry in Monte Carlo onto the lid to brighten.  Then I liked the upper lid with Love in London.  The look lasted all day over primer, and I was really pleased with it.

Antique is a bronzed-rose with a large amount of silvery-blue shimmer in the formula.  It's pretty, but a little too glittery for me for everyday wear.  Be a great shade for evening wear though.  I'm an idiot and forgot to swatch this separately.  For £4.99 though, this is a great bargain, it's very reminiscent of Sin by NARS.  I'll try and swatch them side-by-side next week.

Lippie's Lust List #1 Estee Lauder Mad Men Collection

It's not often a collection makes my heart go pitty-pat these days (jaded, Moi?) but this retro-themed collection from Estee Lauder might just have managed it.  The blush compact and lipstick in particular have got my name all over them, and hey!  Mad Men.  Gotta love it.  Think this will be one of the most collectible make up sets in a long time ...

The Estee Lauder Mad Men collection is released tomorrow (Monday 4th March) exclusively at Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Harrods and Estee Lauder online.  Blush £48, Lipstick £26 and Polish £20. My poor bank balance ...

Honeymoon Makeup Bag

I didn't want to take a huge amount of products with me to Paris last week, so broke out a tiny sampling of tried and trusted favourites, and new bits that needed a good testing, and made do with one - ONE! - lipstick whilst I was there.  I figured, hey, it's Paris, there's a Sephora on the doorstep if it all goes wrong!

Luckily,  it didn't.  Here's what I took:

Clockwise from bottom left:
DJV Beautenizer Volume Lash Mascara: I get mine from Cult Beauty, it's simply the best tubing mascara I've used.  I love it.  I occasionally use it in conjunction with the same company's Fibrewig mascara which is better for lengthening, and hey, I get to sing Fibrewig to the Spiderpig theme for the rest of the day...

Clinique Chubby Stick for Eyes in LotsO' Latte and Fuller Fudge:  Both taupe-ish shades, though Fuller fudge has a touch more orange/copper in the mix.  These are simple, and easy to use, and are very silky to apply without dragging.  They take a bit of building up though, and I discovered that they do need a primer underneath or they crease and fade quite badly (albeit slowly).  I like them, but I don't love them, to be honest, I think I'd like them more if they were slightly more pigmented, and (ironically) a bit thinner.  I may try some of the less neutral shades and see how I like those.

Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser in Glow: I love this.  I need a back up.  It's nourishing and gives good buildable courage with just a hint of a sheen.  It makes my skin look amazing.  I need a back up (possibly in a slightly lighter shade), did I mention that?

Illamasqua Liquid Liner in Abyss: My holy grail liquid liner.  This one is nearly dead after almost two years of almost-daily usage.  I need a replacement.

Green People Mineral Powder Blush in Peach (with Louise Young blusher brush): This is a delightfully soft blusher that gives you a slight glow without shimmer.  Very natural looking, and not too much on the orange side.

  
And finally: Givenchy Le Rouge in Carmin Escarpin: I'm a shallow so-and-so, and, I have to admit, that I mainly packed this because it's an extremely stylish lipstick, clad in chrome and leather, and, well ... Givenchy were kind enough to send me a sample that had been engraved with my name:

Who can resist such luxury?  Luckily for Givenchy (and the Lippie mush), the formula is a winner too.  Lightweight and matte, with great slip, it's a fabulous red lipstick, which felt perfectly at home in Paris! Lasting time is about average for such a bright colour, but reapplying is no real hardship, let's face it!
